Cristobal Balenciaga

Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre (Getaria, Gipuzkoa; 21 January 1895-Jávea, Alicante; 23 March 1972) Fashion designer

Known simply as Balenciaga, he was a prestigious fashion designer born in Getaria, considered one of the most important creators of haute couture, who worked mainly in Paris for more than three decades. He had previously trained as a tailor and had several of his own labels in Spain. A contemporary of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, he is the most important Spanish haute couturier in history, along with Manuel Pertegaz and Elio Berhanyer.
