Joaquín de Barroeta-Aldamar y Hurtado de Mendoza

Joaquín de Barroeta-Aldamar y Hurtado de Mendoza (Getaria, Gipuzkoa, 27 February 1796-Madrid, 30 October 1866) Politician.

At the age of 16 he was already fighting against the French who invaded Spain. In the Carlist War he took the side of Queen Cristina. He took part in the attempt by Espoz y Mina and Monte de Oca. Mayor of Getaria in 1815 and senator of the Kingdom in 1844, a post in which he energetically defended the integrity of the Basque fueros. Knight of Santiago, Grand Cross of Isabella the Catholic and Gentleman of the Chamber. On his death, the Provincial Council ordered the transfer of his remains to Getaria and his burial in the Chapel of La Piedad. He is the ancestor of the current Queen Fabiola of Belgium.
