Cristobal Balenciaga, Getaria natural and certainly one of the most revolutionary and influential artists in the history of the seam, was born in this modest house at Aldamar Street. He was the son of José Balenciaga and Martina Eizagirre Enbil, dressmaker who worked, among others, for the family Aldamar, Marquis de Casa Torres, who help Balenciaga in his early career. His birthplace responds to the typical characteristics of the dwellings of fishermen of the late nineteenth century. This is a very sober building, built in masonry, with spans of small size and with little decoration. It consists of ground floor and three floors. Balenciaga leaves home in 1907. Since then reside in San Sebastian, where he will give his first steps into the fashion world in some major tailoring of San Sebastian. Since 2011, a museum located in the nearby palace of Aldamar, recalls the figure and the creative legacy of Balenciaga.
